Why Polarion and ISO26262?
Polarion ALM provides traceability between the information items, allowing you to see who made a change, what was changed, when it was changed and why it was changed.
ALM - Application Lifecycle Management requires one single tool covering multiple areas of product development. Functional Safety Analysis is added to ALM.
The process of safety analysis includes multiple steps. You need to identify hazards and risks, then you need to set the safety goals, prioritize them by ASIL level
and then you need to define safety requirements, which can be hardware-related (hardware safety requirements ) , software-related (software safety requirements ) or technical safety requirements,
and these requirements will help to reduce the risk of the hazard.
Polarion has great qualities to offer OEMs and suppliers in the automotive and transportation industries.

Q&A - Questions and Answers
|
Question #1: Is Polarion ALM license type necessary to use this ISO26262 template or are reduced Polarion installations/licences sufficient (e.g. Polarion Requriements management only) ?
Answer: You can use any license type, for example Requirements, Reviewer. You don't need to have explicitly ALM-type license.
Question #2:
Is it possible to generate a report at a specific baseline of items - e.g. when a previous version was released?
Answer: Yes. You can generate report for a specific baseline of a project, or for specific revision. Polarion has historic data saved in the database (SVN) and the report can always use this historic data.
Question #3:
I have a question regarding the HARA with your template. How can you ensure completeness in regard with combination between malfunctions and scenarios?
Answer: (1) we use links between items malfunctions and scenarios to track the relationships between them.
(2) we plan to build a report which can calculate all possible combinations "malfunctions:scenarios" and to show how many combinations are already covered.
Question #4:
Polarion seems to be very modular. How would you estimate the possibility to adapt it to ISO 21343 (Road vehicles – Cybersecurity engineering) too?
Answer: This shall possible. We need to find (a) specialist(s) in ISO 21343, (b) examples of data and process. Then we can create Polarion ALM template for ISO 21343.
Would be good to have some companies who will use this template and provide feedback, so that we can make improvements according to the practical needs.
Question #5:
Can I create my own ISOS26262 Template?
Answer: Yes, but it will take a lot of effort and time.
We offer existing data model, reports, permissions, processes - which are already tested and used by some companies.
If you try to create your own template, then you need to invent, implement and test all the processes, fields, reports.
This will take long time, because you need to discuss and agree between different departments. Practice shows that discussions take longer time, than the technical implemetation of the template.
