Requirements Management & Systems Engineering – ALM Day in the UK

The event, hosted by GARANTIS IT Solutions Ltd and supported by Siemens UK, proved to be an exceptional first-of-many gatherings for the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) community in the United Kingdom.

Conference Overview

When it comes to implementing projects in Polarion, GARANTIS IT Solutions has always been enthusiastic about innovative ideas and excited to be a leader in the use of Polarion. This conference was the first of many events about ALM, Requirements Management and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Furthermore, it was a brilliant opportunity for ALM specialists, experts and enthusiasts in the UK to come together in an event dedicated to digital transformation of enterprises with Polarion.

It should be noted that this ALM Day was held as a conference and a workshop at the same time. It was highly practical, demonstrating real projects, technical know-how, as well as the latest technologies for requirements management and systems engineering with real examples from well-recognized companies in their fields. Experts from Siemens, Alexander Dennis, ZeroAvia, Ricardo Rail, Obeo and Garantis IT Solutions shared their experience of using Polarion as a digital ecosystem for Application Lifecycle Management, requirements, quality assurance, planning, etc.

George Harkay from Siemens delivered a presentation on the latest features of Polarion, accompanied by a live demonstration.

Graham Gest provided a well-crafted presentation on how Polarion aids in managing functional safety and cybersecurity at Alexander Dennis, known for producing the iconic London double-decker buses and single-decker buses for rural areas. During his presentation he highlighted the importance of functional safety analysis and cyber security in developing electric buses. Polarion played a crucial role in defining hazards, safety goals and ensuring traceability to test cases that helped them demonstrate compliance with automotive standards.

Sergei Irisov from ZeroAvia explained how they use Polarion as an ALM solution for software development and shared insights into their aerospace project. He emphasized the use of Polarion for defining and managing requirements, connecting them to model-based systems engineering tools. Sergei also mentioned that they utilize Teamcenter by Siemens for storing design data, PLM-related tasks, managing 3D models and meta information about physical items. They are currently working on integrating Teamcenter and Polarion ALM.

Ricardo Rail and Richard Gibney, representing the railway industry, shared their experience of customizing Polarion to improve usability. Using velocity scripts, HTML and CSS style sheets, they streamlined the user experience, making data entry, item updates and result downloads seamless. The implemented process ensured adherence to guidelines and data accuracy. The outcome was a project with a user-friendly interface, an advanced document management system, and improved efficiency in managing and reusing documents.

Etienne Juliot from Obeo Etienne Juliot from Obeo presented the practice of integrating Polarion and the Capella MBSE application, highlighting the significance of this integration to address the need for seamless collaboration and efficiency in model-based systems engineering.
